Our Mission
Our goal at Mentoring America is to slowly minimize the gap between underfunded and funded high schools by allowing students the opportunity to gain knowledge and guidance for post-secondary education.
Our Inspiration
-
Bias
Despite the knowledge that lower-income districts with large minority student populations receive less in funding, most states continue to rely on local property taxes for school funding, which puts lower- income areas at a disadvantage.
-
Unequal educational opportunities
Many high school students in the United States lack access to knowledge and guidance about higher education. This shortfall in the U.S. education system is attributed to the individual student’s financial situation and their school’s lack of resources.
-
Generational Oppression
Students in these lower-income communities suffer as a result of this unequal appropriation of funds, and not just for one generation. Lack of educational resources leads to continuing generational and situational poverty unnecessarily.
Our Plan
Inspire
Current college students inspire and motivate students about post-secondary options. Each student is paired with a mentor based on their unique interests.
Guide
Individualized mentors assist high school students in navigating the post-secondary application process.
Achieve
Frequent mentoring and check ins with students from mentors to ensure benchmarks and goals are being met.
